Things to know

Multiple Visits

A pool closing typically takes multiple visits to your property. For speed and efficiency, our pool closing service normally takes two stages.

Schedule Ahead

It is recommended to schedule your pool closing 2 or more weeks prior to it actually being closed. Closing a clean pool will likely ensure a smoother opening process in the spring; we recommend having your pool serviced before the closing.

Equipment Storage

D&R offers pool pump storage at no charge securely in our warehouse over the winter. Optionally we can remove and store your heater tray at an additional charge. Ensure protection against theft, pest damages, and accessories to equipment do not get lost; for an easier opening.

Water & Electric

Until we close your pool, we will still need outdoor water spigot access. We also need ready access to an outdoor power outlet for pool closing equipment.

Locked Access

For storage and ease of access if you will not be home, please provide us with any access keys, codes, or instructions for your specified storage areas. We will need this to retrieve your cover, and store any accessories. We will always leave your property in the condition we found it, and secure any entryways.

Winter Maintenance

From rain and snow over the winter, your swimming pool will fill up. When the temperatures drop, a thick layer of ice forms at the top of the pool; potentially causing skimmers, or tiles to crack on the pool. We check your pool and pump it down through the winter as necessary.

East Quogue Pool Closing Service Process

How our pool closing service works.
Lower Swimming Pool
Most pools get lowered a foot under the skimmers, unless a special circumstance requires the swimming pool to be emptied. Emptying a pool can be dangerous and cause vinyl pools to collapse or gunite pools to partially pop out of the ground due to the Long Island water table.
Disconnect Equipment
Disconnect all equipment, heaters, autofills, and water features. We store your pump in our secure environmentally controlled warehouse to prevent accessory loss, longevity, and ease of access for opening your pool. *unless you specify otherwise we will store your pump in our warehouse.

Optionally, we can remove and store your heater tray at an additional charge.

Blow Out Lines
Thoroughly blow out your pool pipes, skimmers, returns, and all water features. Heaters, filters, and autofills too. Afterwards, we add an antifreeze solution to the swimming pool pipes.

Failure to do this properly can cause freezing, resulting in line breakage. They can be in hard to reach areas and become a costly repair. We ensure this won’t happen.

Adjust Chemicals
Add the proper winterizing chemicals, and supply the chlorine tab floaters necessary to maintain the chemistry of the water, to ensure a smoother opening in the spring. If your pool has a vinyl liner, we secure the chlorine floaters to prevent color fading on your liner.
Covers
We cover your pool whether it’s a mesh safety cover, or traditional water bag cover. We do not recommend putting a full cover over a heater, as it can make it comfortable for pests. Afterwards, we fully inspect the cover and make any recommendations to you for fixes as needed.
